I commissioned a model of the Skipjack Silver Spray. I grew up in the Virginia Tidewater area and spent a lot of time down by the oyster boats.
It made a very nice model of a Skipjack oyster boat that needed a place to sit. I designed and built this Mission style table just to hold the model. As usual Kathy did the finish.
The table stands about 37 inches high and is 18 inches deep and 22 inches wide. The wood is quarter sawn white oak with Rockler’s Mission Stain. Joinery is all mortise and tenon with through tenons at the bottom shelf and stretcher. The drawer is dovetailed on both ends and the interior is also QS white oak. This is because as usual I had a lot of scrap left over.
ots of figured oak for the top. Butt glued planks and held to the case with metal table irons.
Mortise and tenon joinery used everywhere. Through tenons on the shelf and bottom stretchers. The legs are 1 1/2 inch by 1 1/2 inch and are of quadrilateral construction so there is quarter sawn flecks on all four sides.
he table was designed on a 3D cad program before I built it.
